Betting on VALORANT esports

Developed by Riot Games, VALORANT is one of the latest hits in esports and online gaming. It’s a free to play (F2P) tactical first-person shooter (FPS) that takes inspiration from classics such as the Rainbow Six, CS2, and the Overwatch series.

Why is VALORANT so popular? Mostly because of its famous developer, Riot Games. If you like esports, you may have already heard of them, with their biggest game being League of Legends, one of the world’s most popular titles. They have also developed some more modest successes like Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, and several others.

But VALORANT has clearly become their second-biggest esports title, and now many events on the circuit have got wagering on them. These events include the VALORANT Champions Tour, which is the top flight of the game, although there is great interest in VALORANT Ascension, which pits all of the winning teams from the Challengers series against each other.

VALORANT has a focus on competitive play, meaning it has been picked up quickly in the esports world. The VALORANT esports scene may relatively young, but with regular tournaments with prize money into the hundreds of thousands, it has expanded quickly.

First lets take a look at the key competitions that take place in the professional VALORANT scene.

VALORANT Champions Tour

The Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) is Riot Games’ official global circuit for professional Valorant, featuring regional leagues in the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific regions. Each region includes ten partner teams with long-term slots, while others qualify through Challengers and Ascension events. The season typically runs from February to August, culminating in Valorant Champions, the world championship event. The prize pool for Champions exceeds US$2 million, with the winners earning around US$1 million plus major sponsorship exposure. Bookmakers worldwide, including bet365, Betway, and Thunderpick, regularly offer betting markets on VCT matches, covering map winners, handicaps, and outright tournament odds.

VCT Ascension

VCT Ascension is the promotion pathway for Valorant’s regional Challenger leagues, giving up-and-coming teams a shot at joining the main Valorant Champions Tour. Three Ascension tournaments run annually — one each for the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific regions — usually between June and July. Each winner earns promotion to their respective top-tier league for two seasons before returning to the Challenger circuit. Several squads have successfully graduated through Ascension, including Gentle Mates from EMEA and Bleed Esports from the Pacific, both of which have since proven competitive against partnered teams in regional play and international qualifiers.

VCT Challengers

VCT Challengers is the second-tier competition beneath the Valorant Champions Tour, created to develop regional talent and provide a clear path to the professional scene. Teams compete within domestic circuits across the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific regions, aiming to qualify for VCT Ascension. It exists to ensure a sustainable talent pipeline and competitive ecosystem beyond the partnered teams. Notable graduates include The Guard, Bleed Esports, and Gentle Mates, all of whom rose from Challengers to international recognition. Betting markets exist but are smaller and less frequent than top-tier VCT events, as sportsbooks focus mainly on the main league and Champions tournaments.

Esports World Cup – VALORANT

Valorant eSport Betting

The Esports World Cup has drawn massive attention, since initially launching as Gamers8 several years ago, with this including a spike at online betting sites. The VALORANT event at EWC 25 was taken out by Team Heretics, who beat Fnatics in the grand final. The 2026 VALORANT EWC event has been confirmed for July and August 2026, with 26 games confirmed for the massive esports festival. While the prize-money is yet to be announced, expect the tournament to be worth at least $1.25million USD. VALORANT betting sites feature both outright winner markets and various head-to-head odds when fixtures are confirmed.

VALORANT is a growing medium for esports betting fans, with action on this popular first-person shooter usually centering around the Champions Tour and major events like the Esports World Cup.

There are two main bet types at VALORANT betting sites with these being futures (outright tournament winer, MVP etc etc) and match-day markets, with these being things like head to head markets, handicaps, maps betting, over/unders and much more.

Esports betting sites can be accessed via both your web browser (on all sized screens) and betting apps, with this the most common way people wager on VALORANT in 2025. Depending on where you are, the most common betting apps are Android, iOS and Huawei.

What VALORANT betting sites you can join will be determined by your location, and what laws you are living under. For instance, USA betting sites and associated brands are much different to legal bookmakers in the UK.

VALORANT bet types

How does competitive VALORANT work? There’s only one game mode during beta. Players team up in groups of five players to play against each other. The winners of the round go to the next phase of the competition.

Because of how new the game is, there are no specialized multiplayer divisions yet. More modes may be added in the future. Recheck this page for more information after the game’s full launch for future updates.

If you want to gamble on VALORANT matches, take a look at the different types of esports bets outlined below.

Valorant character
  • Winner
In this wager, you define which team will win the game. It’s the most straightforward bet you can make. It’s also possible to bet on the outright winner of a VALORANT competition.
  • Over/under
This type of bet predicts a particular statistic related to a match. For instance, you can bet on whether a team has more or less than a specified number of kills in a contest (e.g. over/under 17.5 kills). Total rounds is another popular over/under market.
  • Handicap bet
Also called a line bet or spread bet, this kind of wager assigns each team a points handicap in order to level the playing field somewhat and draw money to both sides of the contest. If the favorites are given a -1.5 handicap, for instance, then they must win by at least two points for the bet to win.
  • Other VALORANT bets
Besides these, there are several other types of bets. The VALORANT betting community is still growing, so we may see different kinds of wagers gain popularity over time.

Tips for betting on VALORANT

VALORANT betting strategies are not so different from the ones used for other esports games. You need to find reliable VALORANT betting sites, learn about the game and leading players, and pick your wagers carefully.

Taking the time to learn about the leading players and teams is the best strategy for esports betting. Games that have existed for years have clear favorites, but this is not yet the case in VALORANT betting. In a new scene, you need to watch out for the rising stars if you want to win.

Another useful hint is to see if any famous players from other games – like Overwatch, for example – have migrated to VALORANT. Pro esports players will have an edge against competitors who are starting out in this new game, so it often pays to side with experience.

VALORANT gameplay and features

What is VALORANT, and why is it so popular? The answer is simple: it’s Riot Games’ new competitive shooter, with a mix of Overwatch and Counter Strike all in one game. Riot also created League of Legends, which is one of the most prominent titles in world esports.

Gamers describe the gameplay as engaging, smart, and very tactical. It has a variety of characters, just like Overwatch, and they have a range of different abilities.

The target audience for the game is predominantly FPS fans. If you’re not into games such as CS2, PUBG, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Overwatch, or Rainbow Six, you probably won’t like it. If you do, however, this game may be one of your favourites this year.

How to play VALORANT

The first step to playing VALORANT would be downloading the game on the Riot Games client or website. VALORANT is free to play, meaning that you only pay for the goods that you buy in the game.

While the core VALORANT gameplay features are pretty straightforward, the game is far from simple. It’s a 5-vs-5 arena in which one team tries to plant a bomb, and the other tries to stop it – in other words, a classic defender-against-attacker game.

Each round ends when the bomb explodes, is defused, or if the five members of any team die. Most games are best out of 25 matches (so you need 13 wins). The matches can last from 60 to 90 minutes, with most rounds lasting two to three minutes.

More game modes such as Spike Rush, Deathmatch and Unrated (a non-competitive or ranked game type) are other game modes that are available to be played, if you don’t wish to play the competitive game mode that is most popular.

Riot Games got famous with the success of League of Legends, which was launched in 2009. With their success and how big Riot Games is now, it will mean that this game is likely to become big in no time.

According to lead designer Trevor Romleski, the game was in development for six years. The first three years were focused on research, and the second half was the actual development.
