NRG will chase their third consecutive victory of the tournament on Saturday, when they take on LOUD in the VALORANT Champions upper bracket semifinals. According to the odds on the best esports bookmakers, the VCT Americas representatives should be in a fine spot to come out ahead, but LOUD are no pushovers.
LOUD finished Group B in second place, with one loss against Team Vitality and two convincing victories against Global Esports and EDward Gaming. Even more impressive was their 2-0 sweep of Paper Rex in the quarterfinals, where LOUD proved they have what it takes to handle elite teams.
Paper Rex struggled to deal with LOUD’s firepower, especially Lucca “lukxo” Travaioli, who is playing out of his mind. LOUD are also extremely good at using the Sage-Chamber combo, which is very difficult to deal with and allows LOUD to secure easy entry kills.
NRG are anything but a bad team. They are excellent on Summit and Sunset, and are one of the best defending teams in the world. But even with their strengths, NRG can easily be dragged into a brawlier match, where they will struggle against LOUD.
At even money, LOUD are an easy pick.
LOUD to win
G2 Esports stunned 100 Thieves in the upper bracket quarterfinals, beating the tournament favorites with 13-5 on Abyss and 13-11 on Ascent. Team Vitality, meanwhile, edged past Nongshim RedForce with a 14-12 overtime win on the series decider, Haven.
G2’s victory against 100 Thieves was their best game in months, with all five players stepping up to deliver. Trent “trent” Cairns shone the brightest at a 1.28 performance rating and is now the third-highest-rated player of the tournament at a 1.20 average.
As a unit, G2 did well to quickly take up space and slow down 100 Thieves. A good approach combined with a few moments of individual brilliance was enough for G2 to win on the day.
Team Vitality had their moments as well, but their match against Nongshim RedForce was a bit of a fiesta, with neither team showing any form of stability. RedForce slipped in a few key rounds, which helped, but Vitality have also had a few too many questionable moments.
G2 Esports have looked like the more stable and composed team of the two this event and appear as the more likely victors for this match.
G2 Esports to win
