English football club Tottenham Hotspur F.C is reportedly in talks with Overwatch League superstar team London Spitfire for a future partnership deal.

Similar to many other traditional sporting leagues around the world, the Spurs are on the look-out for opportunities to enter the booming esports gaming industry, which reported a US$1.5 billion turnover last year.

According to The Sun, the Overwatch esports scene has piqued their interest – and the Spurs specifically have the home-grown London Spitfire in their sights to represent them globally.

Spitfire President Dan Fiden told the British newspaper the team had not yet ironed out a partnership with any particular group, but that they have had conversations “with a number of teams”, while confirming Tottenham as an interested party for a potential deal in the making.

“They are an incredibly impressive organisation and what they’re doing in the development is awesome,” Fiden said.

“They really want to invest in the community in a way that is important for us when we think about partnerships.”

Tottenham have plans to construct a world-class esports venue at their new £750 million White Hart Lane stadium in North London, which is not dissimilar to how the NBA is building out theatres for their upcoming NBA 2K League teams.

The stadium is scheduled to open in September this year, just before the 2018 Premier League commences, but the esports part of the venue is yet to have a concrete date.
