Astralis announced the departure of Counter-Strike 2 coach Casper “ruggah” Due on Monday, June 15, following a disappointing run at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major 2026.

Ruggah’s departure comes after Astralis’ poor performance in Cologne, where the Danish squad crashed out of Stage 2 with a 1-3 record.

Their run included a sole victory against GamerLegion and three defeats against 9z Team, TYLOO, and paiN Gaming.

The 37-year-old joined Astralis in March 2024, replacing Mathias “R0nic” Pinholt, who was serving as interim coach at the time.

Under ruggah, Astralis struggled to find major results, even after transitioning to an international roster with Love “phzy” Smidebrant and Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas at the start of 2026.

Over two and a half years as head coach, ruggah did not win a single big event, although he did lead Astralis to a few notable runs.

That included a bronze medal at ESL Pro League Season 23 and a runner-up finish at PGL Bucharest earlier this season.

Astralis’ form, however, has taken a dive in recent months, with a fifth-sixth place finish at BLAST Rivals Spring, seventh-eighth at IEM Atlanta, and 20th-22nd at Cologne Major.

The disappointing run at the Major sparked rumours that Astralis were looking to make big changes, with ruggah and in-game leader Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen both reportedly nearing the exit doors.

While Astralis claimed that any rumours about changes to their active lineup are unsubstantiated, changes to the coaching staff have now occurred.

Until further announcements, assistant coach Max “MiGHTYMAX” Heath is likely to take over as a temporary replacement.

Astralis now have two months to fill the gap and find a new head coach ahead of their next competitive endeavour at the Esports World Cup 2026.

With Astralis, ruggah enjoyed his sixth stint as a head coach, having previously led Team Dignitas, North, OpTic Gaming, and OG.

He has yet to comment on his plans for the future.
