Riot Games will bring back old League of Legends systems in LoL Classic, including legacy runes, masteries and the original map.

Riot Games have confirmed the development of League of Legends Classic, which will bring back old champions, items, runes, maps, and progression systems.
Following in the footsteps of Activision Blizzard, which found success with World of Warcraft Classic servers, Riot Games have decided to bring back the original version of their MOBA title for fans looking to relive the game’s nostalgic early days.
Riot announced the news with a short video on X. However, besides revealing the idea and confirming that LoL Classic is in development, not many details were shared.
More information is set to be made available during the Mid-Season Invitational grand final on July 11.
While plenty about LoL Classic remains shrouded in mystery, some details are already known.
As reported, LoL Classic will have over 60 champions available, including their old kits, with notable champions such as Urgot and Graves getting their original abilities back.
The game will also feature the old Summoner’s Rift map, which was used between 2009 and 2014.
No legacy server would be complete without the old rune and mastery system, which was removed in 2017.
With the old system, players will have to unlock separate runes with Influence Points and use them in rune pages to give their champions small bonuses in categories such as damage, ability power, critical strike chance, and health points.
LoL Classic is said to be separate from the main game, meaning it will include a distinct progression system exclusive to the mode.
Unlike the modern version, it is expected to feature the old system, allowing players to level up from 1 to 30, while also having its own battle pass.
As of now, most of the details about LoL Classic remain speculation or unconfirmed leaks. However, eager players will not have to wait long to get more detailed answers about the game and potential esports tournaments tied to LoL Classic.
