On Sunday, June 1, Riot Games announced Summit, a new VALORANT map set to enter the competitive map pool later this month.

The reveal happened during VALORANT Masters London, with Riot also organising a showmatch between influencers ahead of the grand final to showcase Summit’s layout, architecture, and gameplay.

As confirmed by Riot Games, Summit will enter the competitive map pool on June 24, but with an asterisk.

For the first two weeks after Summit’s release, all ranked defeats on the new map will result in 50% reduced Rank Rating losses. Meanwhile, all wins will grant the usual amount of RR.

Riot will also implement a separate queue for Summit, allowing players to familiarise themselves with the new map before it is fully implemented in ranked play.

In addition to the new map, Riot Games will launch a new game mode called Retake.

The game mode, which will be familiar to Counter-Strike 2 fans, is played as a 3v3 scenario built around retaking or defending a site after the Spike has been planted.

In Retake, the two three-player teams rotate between defender and attacker roles, with the first side to win five rounds taking the game.

The attacking side’s goal is to defuse the Spike or eliminate all opponents, while the defending side must prevent the defuse or wipe out the opposing team.

Like in Counter-Strike 2, the start of each round of VALORANT’s version of Retake will offer players two cards that provide randomised equipment, including ability charges or weapons and armour. These cards scale as the game progresses.

Riot Games have yet to reveal whether Summit will be added to the official map pool for the upcoming Esports World Cup, which is set to kick off on July 9.
