On Monday, June 15, PGL announced that China will host an upcoming Counter-Strike 2 tournament, scheduled for April 2027.

Named PGL China 2027, the competition is the 23rd confirmed CS2 tournament for the 2027 season and one of six events PGL intends to host that year.

The tournament is scheduled for April 14-26, following an Intel Extreme Masters event that will be hosted at the start of the month in the United States.

PGL China 2027 will also run alongside FISSURE Playground #6, which is the first and, so far, only FISSURE event confirmed for 2027.

“China is ready to host elite Counter-Strike 2 under the PGL banner. With a passionate fanbase and a rapidly growing esports culture, this region is ready to become the next landmark destination in PGL’s mission to bring world-class competition to fans across the globe. The best teams in the world,” read the announcement.

The tournament will host 16 CS2 teams, 14 of whom will secure invites via the Valve Regional Standings.

The remaining two spots will be awarded through qualifiers, which are slated to run in the weeks leading up to the show.

Qualifiers for the tournament will be hosted across Europe and Asia, starting with the EU & Asia Open Qualifier on January 27-30, followed by the EU & Asia Closed Qualifier on February 1-4.

Besides the dates, PGL also revealed a US$1,000,000 prize pool and an additional US$300,000 VRS invite bonus.

The VRS invite bonus is an incentive pool distributed to teams based on the Valve Regional Standings, awarding the top five teams who accept invites to the event a US$60,000 bonus.

If less than US$200,000 of the VRS bonus is distributed for the event, the remaining amount will be added to the Annual Viewership Incentive Pool.

The latter is a US$2.8 million yearly pool, distributed to the top 16 teams who generate the highest average concurrent viewership across PGL’s Tier 1 tournaments in 2027.

That adds another reason for the world’s highest-rated squads to compete in PGL-organised events across the year.

As of now, PGL have refrained from sharing any additional information about the competition.
