Despite having a decade under its belt, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is still in the business of breaking records. In an excellent start to the year, the Valve tactical FPS just beat its own record of the most concurrent player count.

CS: GO’s recent achievement is proof enough that the game still has more room to expand. Modern FPS games seem to have benefited Valve’s first-person shooter as new players have flooded the classic after trying their hands at other newer products.

According to a stat site, CS:GO boasts a peak concurrent player record of 1,320,219, followed by Dota 2 and then PUBG. The game beat the record it set in April 2020 by 12,000 players. At the time, the pandemic had a chokehold on the world and limited people to their homes, ultimately benefiting the Valve game. CS:GO had 1,305,714 players who enjoyed playing the game that year.

CS:GO is one of the four games that have ever reached a million concurrent players alongside Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Lost Ark. The February 11 record showed that despite CS:GO being the oldest inthe FPS gaming genre, it was still as relevant as it had ever been.

Several of the CS:GO community received the news in a celebratory manner, while others pointed out that the game was yet to make an operation or big update in a while. There were also comments claiming that the new Revolution case and the game’s musical collaboration with Denzel Curry were contributing factors to the players’ boast.

A few days prior, CS:GO released the new Revolution Case that went live after the tactical first-person shooter’s update on February 9.

The case contains 17 weapon skins of some of the most used guns in CS:GO, such as the AK-47, the M4A1-S, the M4A4, and the AWP. The M4A4 and AK-47 have red rarity skins, while several have bright neon-like colors.

This is significantly different from the known CS:GO skins that rarely come out in those shades. The new skins feature several options for players that want upbeat themes. There are also some much sought-after CS:GO gloves in the case.

Besides the Revolution Case, CS:GO also added a Music Kit from Denzel Curry and a new Espionage Sticker Capsule to its game.

CS:GO previously lost some of its players’ count in 2022 but recovered its 1 million mark and is still growing. The Valve game initially experienced a dip in 2020 caused by the online era of play and Valorant’s subsequent release.

The game experienced the most significant drop in years and continued to dip in 2021 for six consecutive months. By July 2021, CS:GO only had 763,523 peak players.

The newest peak players count was recorded just over an hour before the start of the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2023 semifinals. Heroic will face off against Natus Vincere in the first game, and later in the day, G2 Esports will compete with Team Liquid.
