Former League of Legends world champion and Fnatic jungler Lauri “Cyanide” Happonen has died, according to a Finnish media outlet.

The 31-year-old, who rose to fame in the esports world by lifting the Summoner’s Cup for Fnatic in 2011, passed away on July 31; however, the news of his death was only recently confirmed by Finland’s Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV).

At this time, there are no details regarding Cyanide’s passing, as he becomes the second member of the 2011 Fnatic roster to pass away, following Maciej “Shushei” Ratuszniak, who died due to cancer in April 2025 at the age of 36.

Cyanide made his first appearance in the esports world in February 2011 as a member of the MyRevenge roster, consisting of Enrique “xPeke” Cedeño Martínez, Shushei, Manuel “LaMiaZeaLoT” Mildenberger, and Peter “Mellisan” Meisrimel. That roster, shortly after forming, was signed by Fnatic as their inaugural lineup.

The Finnish jungler joined Fnatic in March 2011 and has remained with the Black & Orange for nearly five years. During that time, he made a name for himself as one of the most recognizable names in the European LoL esports scene in the early days.

After winning the inaugural LoL World Championship, Cyanide became a part of Fnatic’s most iconic roster, alongside xPeke, Bora “YellOwStaR” Kim, and Paul “sOAZ” Boyer, helping the team win three EU LoL Championship Series (LCS) titles between 2013 and 2014, while also reaching the semifinals of the Season 3 World Championship.

Following the 2014 season, Cyanide departed Fnatic. He had since served as a substitute for OG between 2015 and 2017 and served as a manager of KOVA Esports in 2021 and 2022, before retiring from the pro scene.

Cyanide’s last appearance in the pro scene happened during the EU LCS Classic Showmatch as part of Team Dynasty, alongside sOAZ, Henrik “Froggen” Hansen, Konstantinos-Napoleon “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou, and Patrick “Nyph” Funk – which took place just six days before the reported date of his death.
