The Toronto Ultra decimated OpTic Texas at the 2023 Call of Duty Major One event. The Canadian esports franchise won all three maps with a large margin of victory in each map of the series.
Although OpTic came into the game with momentum having reverse swept the Florida Mutineers in their previous outing, their performance at the winners’ match was below expectation. With their loss to Toronto, the franchise could fail to reenact their 2022 CDL Major One campaign win.
While Toronto almost suffered defeat at the hands of amateur team Pollodrom, they managed to overcome a 2-0 deficit and secure a reverse sweep to win the match. Despite this close call, Toronto has shown exceptional skill in the tournament so far, winning their last six maps with impressive dominance.
Toronto struggled in the first map, Mercado Hardpoint, but eventually took control and won the map with a score of 250-146. Their SMG players, CleanX and Standy, were key contributors to the victory, with CleanX earning a 1.35 K/D and Standy an impressive 1.85 K/D.
Toronto capitalized on their momentum in the Mercado Search and Destroy, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead thanks to CleanX’s ninja defuse in the opening round of the map. The team maintained their strong start and secured a 6-3 victory, giving them a commanding 2-0 series lead. Scrappy stood out in the win, recording a 13-6 statline and dealing over 1,600 worth of damage.
Toronto dominated in their series against OpTic, particularly in the third map, Hotel Control. Their impressive offensive and defensive strategies, led by a standout performance from rookie player Scrappy, resulted in a 3-0 sweep in the Control for Toronto.
This gave them a clean sweep in the series overall. Scrappy consistently made impressive plays throughout the game, culminating in his impressive 26-12 statline in the final series.
On the first day of CDL Major One, OpTic struggled with Control and lost both maps. They couldn’t secure any defensive rounds in either of the Hotel maps they played.
While Texas managed to come back from a 2-1 deficit against the Florida Mutineers on their first map, they were completely outmatched by Toronto on their second map. This inconsistent start to the 2023 Call of Duty season continues for Texas.
The Toronto Ultra have won five consecutive matches, recovering from their season-opening loss to Minnesota. They are establishing themselves as one of the top CDL teams. Standy and Scrappy both played exceptionally well in this match, with K/Ds of 1.32 and 1.56 respectively.
In their playoff round one fixture, Toronto will go up against the Atlanta FaZe, who also swept their opponent (Seattle Surge) to secure a bracket play spot.
Having secured a win over OpTic Texas, the Toronto Ultra progressed to the CDL Major One bracket play, while the former will be required to win their next outing against Florida Mutineers in a decider match. The winner of the matchup will advance to the bracket play. On GG.BET, OpTic are heavy favorites to win with odds set at $1.5 and Florida pegged at $2.51.
