Team Spirit have claimed the PGL Astana 2025 title, overcoming Astralis 3-1 in a thrilling best-of-five grand final to lift their second trophy of the year. The victory, sealed in front of a raucous crowd at Barys Arena, reaffirms the Russian side’s status as one of the most dominant forces in Counter-Strike esports.

All eyes were once again on Danil “donk” Kryshkovets, who capped off a sensational tournament with another MVP performance. The 17-year-old phenom averaged a staggering 1.50 rating across the event and delivered some of the grand final’s most iconic plays — none more impactful than his 1v4 clutch to close out Nuke.

Spirit set the tone early with a one-sided opening map on Dust2. Their terrorist side was relentless, dragging Astralis across the map and keeping Nicolai “device” Reedtz quiet. The Danes barely managed a single round on their defence, and despite a few flashes of resistance after the side switch, the result was never in doubt.

Map two, Nuke, provided far more resistance. Astralis had their moments, including key multi-kills from Victor “Staehr” Staehr and a solid B-site hold late in the half. But Spirit’s stars turned up when it mattered most. Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov won a crucial 1v3 to earn map point before donk shut the door with a jaw-dropping 1v4 clutch in the following round to give Spirit a commanding 2-0 series lead.

Just when it looked like Spirit might cruise to a 3-0 sweep, Astralis punched back on Mirage. A dominant 10-round streak spearheaded by Staehr and Martin “stavn” Lund saw the Danes mount a late-series comeback, shutting down Spirit’s attack and clawing back the series at 2-1.

The action then moved over to Train — a high-stakes battleground that swung with every round. Astralis built an early 10-5 lead, finally finding a way to keep donk at bay. But a scrappy B-site win from Spirit sparked life into the Russian camp. Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov led the charge with sharp AWPing, and the comeback was complete after donk delivered another clutch to seal the deal.

Despite missing out on facing 2025 heavyweights Team Vitality and Team Falcons, Spirit did everything expected of the top esports betting sites’ favourite. They navigated the bracket with confidence and composure, and in the final, they proved they could rise to the occasion under pressure.

For Astralis, the loss ends a magical run that saw them reach their first major LAN final in years with Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen at the helm. But in the end, Spirit’s firepower — especially donk’s — proved too much.

With the BLAST.tv Austin Major up next on their calendar, Team Spirit will head to Texas full of confidence and momentum following their impressive performance at PGL Astana.
