After cruising through the upper bracket undefeated, OpTic arrived in the final without dropping a single map against powerhouses like Atlanta FaZe, Toronto Ultra, and Boston Breach. But their final test came in the form of Surge—a team that stunned everyone with a Cinderella run from the first round of the lower bracket, including an upset over the top seed and esports betting sites favourites, Los Angeles Thieves.
The final series was a rollercoaster of momentum swings. OpTic set the tone early with a commanding win on Hacienda Hardpoint, led by the electric SMG duo of Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Cuyler “Huke” Garland. But Surge hit back immediately, dismantling the Green Wall 6-0 in Search and Destroy on Dealership, courtesy of a flawless display from Jordan “Abuzah” François. What followed was a gritty, back-and-forth contest with both teams exchanging wins through Control, Search and Destroy, and more Hardpoint maps.
Ultimately, it came down to the eighth map, Rewind Hardpoint. Surge held a 60-point lead late in the game, but OpTic dug deep, flipping the script in the final two hills. Shotzzy, who posted a 1.22 KD in the series, led the comeback to clinch the championship.
Rookie sensation Mason “Mercules” Ramsey was named Champs MVP after a breakout performance that capped off a redemption arc. Initially overlooked by Toronto Ultra, the American talent found a home at OpTic and thrived on the biggest stage.
The title marks Shotzzy’s third Champs crown—making him the youngest ever three-time world champion—and second for veterans Huke and Brandon “Dashy” Otell. Coach Damon “Karma” Barlow also celebrated a milestone, earning his fifth ring and second as a coach.
From a midseason slump and roster doubts to world domination, OpTic Texas completed one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Call of Duty history—cementing their dynasty in green and gold.
