ALGS Midseason Playoffs to be held at Esports World Cup in Riyadh

The 2025 ALGS Playoffs are heading to Riyadh as part of the Esports World Cup. 40 teams, $2 million prize pool, and crucial Championship Points.

EA has confirmed that the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Midseason Playoffs will be held at the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 10–13, combining what was expected to be two separate events into one.

The tournament will feature a $2 million prize pool and see 40 of the world’s top Apex Legends teams battling it out for playoff glory and valuable Championship Points.

The announcement ties the ALGS directly into the EWC schedule, meaning that qualifying teams must attend or risk losing their spot in the broader circuit.

Five teams have already secured qualification through the ALGS Open: Team Falcons, Alliance, 100 Thieves, Al Qadsiah, and Shopify Rebellion. The rest of the field will be filled via Split 1 Pro League results and regional finals.

The tournament will follow a unique format. The 40 teams will be split into two groups of 20 for Pool Play, with the top seven from each group advancing directly to the Match Point Finals.

Teams finishing 8th to 17th will move into the Last Chance Semifinals, where six more teams will qualify for the final stage. The bottom three teams in each group will be eliminated early.

While the prize pool is a significant upgrade from previous midseason playoffs, the decision to merge the event with the Esports World Cup hasn’t been universally well-received.

Fans have criticised EA for reducing the number of standalone LAN events and for linking Apex Legends’ premier competition to a Saudi-backed tournament.

The Esports World Cup is operated by the Esports World Cup Foundation and funded through Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which has faced backlash over alleged “sportswashing” of the Kingdom’s human rights record.

Still, with big money, global exposure, and qualification points on the line, teams will have no choice but to take part.

The ALGS Split 1 Pro League resumes this weekend, with a packed schedule as teams fight for one of the remaining tickets to Riyadh.
