VARREL and Paper Rex will cross swords on Sunday, August 9, in the final round of the VCT Pacific Stage 2 group stage, when the two teams battle it out for the Group Omega medal.
Both squads have managed a 3-1 record this stage. Paper Rex lost the first game of the stage against T1 and have since beaten DetonatioN FocusMe, DRX, and Team Secret, whereas VARREL have beaten all opponents but DetonatioN FocusMe, who bested them 2-1 last week.
Results-wise, there is nothing to separate the two squads. However, the top-rated VALORANT bookmakers have Paper Rex listed as -454.55 favourites.
This is mainly due to PR’s past accomplishments and their high ceiling, as well as a much deeper map pool.
Paper Rex have been more effective on a wider range of maps this split than VARREL, who only really looked good on Haven.
This is, however, a map PR like to ban, and even when they were forced to play Haven, the reigning champions did not disappoint.
It is hard to find a solid win condition for VARREL, who will struggle to win a map, let alone the series.
Paper Rex -1.5 maps
Nongshim RedForce have managed a 2-2 record over the first three weeks of play, while Rex Regum Qeon won their first match of the stage last week, when they upset FULL SENSE 2-1.
With just one victory to their name, RRQ have not impressed anyone, and even their victory against FULL SENSE was mostly FS performing poorly.
But while it is fair to be critical of Rex Regum Qeon, Nongshim RedForce have not been amazing either in their recent outings against ZETA DIVISION and Global Esports.
This is a clash between two struggling teams, and it should play out as such. RedForce should be slightly favoured, but at these numbers, Rex Regum Qeon are an excellent underdog pick.
Rex Regum Qeon to win
