PUBG Mobile has made some major changes to its esports ecosystem ahead of the 2023 season. One of the changes as revealed by the esports organizer includes the decision to designate Turkey as the location for its Global Championship.
PUBG Mobile will be expanding its PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL) ecosystem, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. As part of this expansion, the PMPL MY/SG/PH will be replaced with a dedicated PMPL Malaysia competition.
In addition, PUBG Mobile is introducing a new league called the PMPL SEA Wild Card, which will include teams from the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Singapore. The company has also announced that it will be hosting more region vs region tournaments in 2023, similar to the PUBG MOBILE Regional Clash which took place in 2022.
In an effort to make the games more exciting and competitive, PUBG Mobile will be transitioning to a 10-point system for all official PUBG Mobile official tournaments. In previous editions, teams that placed first in games used to receive 15 points, with the point value decreasing based on their position.
To give semi-pro and amateur teams more opportunities to compete, KRAFTON, the developer of PUBG Mobile, has introduced a dedicated esports ecosystem. The PMPL Qualifier, hosted by the PMPL, will provide a path for these teams to enter the leagues. They can access the PMPL Qualifier by participating in the PUBG MOBILE Club Open, PUBG MOBILE National Championship, and other tournaments not directly affiliated with PUBG Mobile.
The PMPL is a major regional competition for the game and serves as a direct path to its largest events of the season. The PMPL operates in various leagues across Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
In addition to the changes to the esports ecosystem, PUBG Mobile will be hosting two international events in 2023: the PUBG Mobile World Invitational and Global Championship. The World Invitational is set to take place in Riyadh in July, while the Global Championship will be held in Turkey for the first time. The exact location and date for the Global Championship have not yet been announced.
The official announcement also mentioned other important events, such as the 32nd Southeast Asian Games which is scheduled to take place in Cambodia and the 19th Asian Games to be hosted in China. These announcements were made prior to the end of the PUBG Mobile 2022 Global Championships.
Overall, the changes made by PUBG Mobile for the 2023 season demonstrate a commitment to improving the competitiveness and excitement of its esports ecosystem. The expansion of the PMPL and the introduction of new leagues and tournaments will provide more opportunities for both professional and amateur teams to showcase their skills.
