HEROIC have announced the departure of assistant coach Mikael “sheddaN” Mellström, who leaves the Counter-Strike team after a 33-month stay.

The 24-year-old joined the Danish side in September 2022 — shortly before their playoff run at ESL Pro League Season 16, where they crashed out in the first round.

Over the next two years and nine months, sheddaN helped HEROIC achieve a few notable tournament placements –including runner-up finishes at the IEM Rio Major in 2022 and 2023, as well as a semifinal run at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.

Results have been far less consistent since the back end of 2023, however, and after a disappointing 17th-19th finish at BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, HEROIC have decided to make some big changes.

In an X post, sheddaN stated that leaving the team was “a very hard decision to make”, suggesting he was not cut from the active roster.

The 24-year-old has yet to share his plans for the future, nor whether he intends to pursue another assistant role or look for an opportunity to serve as a head coach.

He has previous experience leading a few lower-tier teams, including Team Viral, Chetz Esports, nerdRage, and Prima eSport.

Before joining HEROIC, sheddaN also served a month-long stint as head coach of Fnatic Rising, with who he won WePlay Academy League Season 5.
