FaZe Clan has announced its partnership with Hulu’s animated sitcom, Solar Opposites in the hosting of its new Fortnite tournament. The North American esports organization has termed the tournament the Solar Opposites FaZe Clan Elite Cup.

The new Fortnite event will see the open qualifiers hold on July 1, while the Grand Finals run through July 2 – 3, 2022. The tournament is open to up-and-coming talent and top pros in two categories – Solos and Duos. Participants will battle to secure a spot in one of the two Finals.

With a prize pool of $50,000, the first Grand Final is to hold on July 2 for Solos vying for the $10,000 prize money. The second Final is scheduled to hold on July 3 for the Duos and has prize money of $40,000. Fortnite players from North America will compete for a chance to see who is befitting of being the pioneer FaZe Clan Elite Cup champion for both categories.

The esports organization’s press release read:
“FaZe Clan, in partnership with Practice Server and Solar Opposites, is hosting the Solar Opposites FaZe Elite Cup to showcase the best talent in the NA region of Fortnite! Starting Friday, July 1st, up-and-coming talent will duke it out for a spot in one of our two Grand Finals lobbies: Saturday, July 2nd, which features solos for $10k prizing, and Sunday, July 3rd, duos for $40k. With top pros, huge prizing at stake, and an FNCS looming on the horizon, the Solar Opposites FaZe Elite Cup will set the stage for an epic showdown!”

Unlike some esports title tournaments, the Solar Opposites FaZe Clan Elite Cup does not consist of partner teams. As such, interested players from the North American region will vie for a spot in the Grand Finals via the qualifiers. The best-qualified players will secure the opportunity to participate in the Grand Finals.

Solar Opposites sitcom looks to release its third season in July 2022. The Esports tournament is meant to achieve the goal of promoting the series prior to the release. The strategy of using an esports tournament as a promotional tool is practically alien as it is one of the very few times it has been tried.

Another example of this strategy being employed is Activision’s tournament partnership with Amazon Prime. The Terminal List – Warzone Rebirth Island Tournament, born out of the Chris Pratt series is scheduled to commence on July 2 in Australia and New Zealand.

FaZe Clan has pledged to reward viewers with a number of activations and giveaways for the entirety of the FaZe Clan Elite Cup. The franchise secured a partnership with a production company, Practice Server.

As such, the production company would be in charge of the entirety of the event’s production. The Practice Server Twitch channel alongside that of FaZe Clan will be the official streaming channels of the tournament.

Despite the major news of FaZe going public, the franchise has had quite an eventful first half of the year. Early in the year, the famous Rapper, Snoop Dogg joined the brand’s Board of Directors. FaZe signed a partnership with top brands like Disney, Ducky Keyboards, and fintech company Current.
