Dplus KIA confirmed on Thursday, July 16, that the esports organisation is undergoing a sale process due to financial issues.

In an official statement, Dplus KIA explained that the South Korean League of Legends organisation is seeking a new owner to ensure the sustainable future and growth of its esports divisions.

“A sale process is currently underway. This is being pursued for the club’s more stable, long-term development, and to strengthen the roster’s global competitiveness.”

The news came to light shortly after Dplus KIA found themselves under the spotlight due to reported payment delays across all of their titles, with players owed one month’s salary.

As confirmed, the club sale is currently underway, while Dplus KIA work with a company specialising in acquisitions and mergers to assist in the process.

While the buyer is still unknown, Dplus KIA are already in discussions with a potential candidate, with negotiations having begun.

Along with announcing the club’s sale process, Dplus KIA also addressed the delayed payments, acknowledging that the ongoing sale had caused the issue and impacted financial planning.

“To the fans and partners who have walked this journey with Dplus KIA, we sincerely apologize once again for causing you deep hurt and disappointment. We will do everything we can to resolve this entire situation swiftly, so that we may emerge as a stronger, more systematic club and repay the love of our fans,” read the announcement.

“During this process, temporary disruptions occurred in our financial planning, which ultimately led to the unfortunate situation where player salaries were delayed by one month.”

Dplus KIA have, however, informed players and coaching staff across all impacted divisions of the situation in advance and are working on resolving the problem.

Dplus KIA are currently owned by AD Esports Co. Ltd, which is controlled by Abyss Company. The introduction of a new owner, however, could lead to another rebrand of the team.

Originally known as MiraGe Gaming, the Korean team rebranded to DAMWON Gaming, then to DWG KIA in 2021 following a sponsorship deal with KIA, and in 2023 to Dplus KIA, dropping the DAMWON name after six years.
