League of Legends Esports World Cup 2026 is just around the corner, featuring a stacked field consisting of the world’s strongest squads, who will begin their quest for the coveted trophy.

The dust has barely settled on the Mid-Season Invitational, and the League of Legends scene is already shifting its focus to France for the next international tournament.

Hosted as part of the Esports World Cup 2026 festival, the LoL EWC 2026 event marks the third international tournament of the year, succeeding First Stand and MSI. However, even though it is not part of Riot’s competitive ecosystem, LoL EWC is no less prestigious.

Scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 15, LoL EWC will feature a short format, run for five days, and culminate on Sunday, July 19.

The tournament is divided into two parts, the group stage and the playoffs.

Action begins with the group stage, featuring four double-elimination groups of four teams. The group stage matches are all best-of-one, except for the elimination matches, which are best-of-three.

The top two teams per group will proceed to the playoffs, which move to a single-elimination bracket, with all games played as best-of-three, except for the grand final, which is best-of-five.

With 16 of the world’s strongest LoL teams in attendance and US$2,000,000 on the line, LoL EWC 2026 is one of the most stacked and lucrative events of the season, and a tournament no fan of the game should miss.

Esportbet brings you a free LoL EWC tournament preview and guide, with expert betting picks and odds from the top-rated esports bookmakers.

LoL EWC 2026 teams to watch

Hanwha Life Esports

Hanwha Life Esports enter the Esports World Cup 2026 fresh off a title run at the Mid-Season Invitational, where they defeated Bilibili Gaming in the grand final 3-2 and ended the Chinese team’s Golden Road.

The title run in South Korea is a solid indication of Hanwha Life Esports’ quality and the main reason for their status as the team to beat. However, it took a lot out of HLE to win MSI, and considering the packed schedule they have had to deal with, fatigue could be setting in.

Bilibili Gaming

Bilibili Gaming’s Golden Road dream ended on Sunday, when they lost against Hanwha Life Esports in the MSI 2026 grand final. While it was a painful loss, it could also help BLG in the long run, as the pressure of not losing a single event for the rest of the season has now been lifted.

EWC does not count towards the Golden Road, but it presents an excellent opportunity for the Chinese team to prove once more that they belong among the world’s elite.

G2 Esports

G2 Esports’ Cinderella story at the Mid-Season Invitational was cut short by LYON in a major upset in the lower bracket semifinals. The crushing loss followed a streak of very promising results, including a 3-2 reverse-sweep of Top Esports and a highly inspiring victory against T1 in the second round of the lower bracket.

Beating Top Esports and T1 are no small feats and a very good indication of G2 Esports’ high ceiling. However, consistency has not been their strong suit, making it more than fair to question how far G2 Esports can go at EWC.

LYON

LYON would not have been on anyone’s radar as a team that could make a splash at the Esports World Cup just a month ago. However, they proved the doubters wrong in South Korea, where LYON came one game short of reaching the MSI grand final.

Their victories against FURIA, Team Secret Whales, and G2 Esports, as well as a closely contested 2-3 loss against Hanwha Life Esports, cemented LYON as an elite team that can challenge anyone. The ceiling is there; however, the motivation to perform at EWC could be a big question mark.

LoL EWC 2026 predictions

Outright bet – T1 to win

The 2026 season has been disappointing by T1’s standards, as they have yet to claim a gold medal outside of winning the Esports World Cup qualifiers. They reached a new low this month at MSI 2026, where T1 crashed out in fifth-sixth place after a painful loss to G2 Esports.

The streak of middling results would indicate that T1 are not in the best shape and have more work to do. However, the reigning world champions have been playing increasingly better over the last few months and should still be considered one of the world’s best teams.

While for most teams, the Esports World Cup does not hold much weight, it gives T1 an opportunity to bounce back from a long stretch of iffy results and reset for the final split of the season.

The talent is there, as is motivation. And with the likes of Hanwha Life Esports and Bilibili Gaming likely travelling to France fatigued, EWC is the perfect place for T1 to shine.

Outsider bet – Gen.G to reach the final

Gen.G, much like T1, have not been having the best season by their standards. They won the LCK Cup, but only made the semifinals of First Stand and exited the LCK Road to MSI in third place, which is far below expectations.

Gen.G’s performances in the spring split were not terrible, but they ran out of steam in the playoffs, losing to T1 in a tightly contested five-map series.

Widely considered one of the most stacked teams in the world, and arguably one of the top-five squads in the scene, Gen.G have all the tools needed to make a run for the EWC trophy.

Given their slip-ups in recent months, Gen.G, much like T1, could take EWC as an opportunity to gain some momentum and prove to the world that they still have it.
