Team WE are priced as heavy underdogs on the top-rated esports bookmakers to defeat Invictus Gaming on Wednesday, and it is hard to argue with that number. They are 0-9 through the first five weeks of the regular season and have yet to show they belong in Group Ascend.

They did take a map off JD Gaming in their last outing, which looks encouraging at first glance, but the context matters. That had more to do with JDG botching a Herald fight and putting Team WE into a position that was almost impossible to throw away.

Invictus Gaming have not been perfect this split either, but they have at least shown more life recently. Their series against Anyone’s Legend last week was fairly competitive, largely because IG managed to find strong openings and put themselves in playable positions.

Team WE remain the weakest side in the upper division, and JD Gaming handing them a map does not change that. Invictus Gaming have enough early-game bite and enough overall quality to control this matchup from the start.

Anything other than a clean IG victory would be a surprise, making the map handicap the best way to play the favourites.

JD Gaming extended their winning streak to five series on Saturday with a victory over Team WE, but the performance was not especially clean. They had a clear stumble in the first map, which is not ideal heading into a much tougher matchup.

Top Esports had been flying earlier in the split, but last week was a little bumpier. They managed just one win from three outings, losing to Weibo Gaming and Anyone’s Legend before getting revenge against WBG on Saturday.

That rematch was much more like the TES we had seen earlier in the split. They controlled the series from start to finish and looked far sharper after two underwhelming games.

Top Esports still have some of the best performance metrics in the league, and they already hold the head-to-head edge after beating JD Gaming in Week 2. Even with the recent slip-ups, TES remain the better side on current form.

The stylistic matchup also favours Top Esports. JD Gaming still tend to start slowly and lean into scaling, while TES are at their best when they can attack early and snowball from there. If TES get control in the opening stages, JDG could struggle to claw their way back.
