League of Legends: GAM Esports part ways with mid laner Emo

Emo has been given the boot by his LoL outfit GAM Esports.

Gam Esports swing changes after missing LoL Worlds

After missing out on the League of Legends World Championship, GAM Esports decided to part ways with mid laner Nguyễn “Emo” Thái Vinh, who left the Vietnamese team on Saturday.

Emo started his professional career in February 2023 as a substitute for MGN Box Esports, who competed in the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS).

Despite finding little success in his first team, Emo was acquired by GAM Esports at the start of 2024.

He originally joined the team as a substitute and got his chance to shine in April as a replacement for Đỗ “Himmel” Đình Sang (formerly Blazes).

During the 2024 season, Emo played 72 games for GAM, helping the Vietnamese team win both VCS splits and qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational and LoL World Championship, where GAM placed 12th-14th.

After a full season with GAM Esports as a starting mid laner, the team brought in Hồ “Aress” Văn Vĩ Đại, who would share playing time with the 20-year-old.

However, Emo remained the go-to player, having played 43 games.

This season, however, was less fruitful for GAM Esports, who finished the Season Kickoff in fourth, LCP Mid-Season in second, and the Season Finals in fourth place, thus missing LoL Worlds for the first time since 2021.

In his final season with GAM Esports, Emo has averaged a 3.6 KDA, with a 53.5% win rate and 14 unique champions played.

As one of the best mid laners in the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP), Emo enters free agency as a highly sought-after player and is likely to find a new home early in the offseason.

As revealed by GAM Esports, Emo’s departure was not performance-related but rather a result of the team and Emo not being able to find a common direction, thus allowing the mid laner to explore his options.

While GAM Esports enter an extended offseason, the LoL world shifts its focus towards the LoL World Championship 2025, which is set to kick off on Tuesday, October 14, with a Play-In clash between T1 and Invictus Gaming.

T1 will be attempting to keep their dream of three successive LoL World Championship’s alive, but face a tough battle against Invictus Gaming. Remarkably the two teams have not faced each other since 2019. LoL betting sites are yet to launch odds on this match, but T1 is likely to start heavy favourite.
