BLAST have confirmed that their fifth Dota 2 tournament, BLAST Slam V, will be staged in Chengdu, China, marking the organizer’s first event in the country. The tournament runs from November 25 to December 7, with the live finals scheduled for December 5–7 at the Wuliangye Culture & Sports Center, a venue capable of hosting up to 12,000 fans.
The move signals BLAST’s growing commitment to the Chinese market, as the event is part of a three-year partnership with Chengdu Television and Media Company. James Woollard, BLAST’s Director of Market Development, highlighted China as one of the fastest-growing esports viewership regions and emphasized the importance of bringing top-tier competitive entertainment to Chengdu.
The BLAST Slam series only welcomed live audiences beginning with the fourth edition in Singapore earlier this year, but Chengdu’s event is set to raise the stakes further. With a US$1,000,000 prize pool and a packed schedule, the tournament is expected to be a landmark moment in BLAST’s Dota 2 expansion.
Six organizations are already confirmed for the group stage: Tundra Esports, HEROIC, Team Spirit, Team Falcons, PARIVISION, and Team Liquid. However, BLAST’s new format means no team is guaranteed a spot on the LAN stage—each will need to battle through the group stage to earn their place in front of the crowd.
China has long been a powerhouse in Dota 2, producing multiple The International champions. While Chinese squads have struggled to lift trophies in recent years, Valve’s decision to invite Yakutou Brothers to The International 2025 over OG Esports underlines the region’s potential resurgence. BLAST Slam V could be the catalyst that reignites local passion and puts China back at the heart of the global Dota 2 scene.
