The 2025 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational will be remembered as one of the most thrilling editions yet, with Gen.G edging past T1 3-2 in a pulsating grand final to defend their crown and extend their unbeaten series streak to 23.
Both League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) giants entered the tournament as the favourites with esports betting sites — Gen.G as reigning MSI champions and T1 as the current world champions. After a flawless run through the upper bracket, Gen.G faced off against a battle-hardened T1 side that had clawed their way back from the lower bracket.
T1 opened the series with sharp macro play and commanding team fighting, turning an early deficit around through Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s clutch Orianna Shockwave and Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyung’s late-game dominance. But Gen.G bounced back in game two, thanks to a masterclass from Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon on Ryze and strong frontlining from Kim “Kiin” Ki-in’s Sion, capitalising on T1’s missteps to level the score.
Game three was all T1. Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun’s Nocturne and Ryu “Keria” Min-seok’s Renata Glasc created havoc, spearheading a 22-2 kill demolition in just 27 minutes. However, Gen.G weren’t done yet. A resilient performance in game four, highlighted by superior team coordination and control around objectives like Atakhan and Baron, saw them even the series once more.
That set the stage for a winner-takes-all fifth game, and Gen.G delivered when it mattered most. Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk snowballed early with a double kill, while Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu’s Nidalee exerted relentless pressure across the map. With Gumayusi’s Caitlyn shut down and Faker contained, T1 couldn’t keep up. Gen.G dominated team fights, secured every major objective, and closed out the decider in 35 minutes to lift the MSI trophy once again.
It was a finals series worthy of the occasion — five games of elite mechanical skill, razor-sharp strategy, and raw emotion. While T1 walk away with a hard-fought second place and US$300,000, Gen.G claimed the US$500,000 grand prize and back-to-back MSI titles, cementing their legacy as the world’s top League of Legends team in 2025.
