XSET earned their first victory on the international stage after a highly intense and difficult battle against XERXIA at VALORANT Champions 2022 on Saturday.
The two teams were evenly matched and each round was unpredictable. As they went back and forth with their rounds, the audience were kept on the edge of their seats.
Even though it was a very close battle, XSET prevailed over XERXIA and won both maps to complete the tournament with a 2-0 score. Both XSET and XERXIA are making their second appearances on the world stage.
However, despite VALORANT’s reputation for its fast-paced action and fierce fraggers, there were some parts of the game in which patience was absolutely necessary. At least three different instances occurred in which players waited to shoot while an adversary agent focused on something else.
Itthirit “foxz” Ngamsaard came out on top first after displaying one of the most impressive levels of patience. Zachary “zekken” Patrone maintained an angle that approached the A site; nevertheless, he neglected to examine his corners. Foxz was there waiting for him, and approximately 20 seconds passed before Rory “dephh” Jackson joined him. Finally, foxz revealed himself to the XSET players as a shower of lethal bullets that fell upon them. Despite the fact that things were not looking good for XSET, they were able to pull through and win the round, which ultimately led to them winning the first map on Fracture.
Matthew “Cryocells” Panganiban’s subsequent two acts of patience happened during the early rounds of Icebox, but the first one did not pay off. He waited for foxz to plant, but at the very last second he pivoted to kill Nutchapon “sScary” Matarat, but he ended up losing the fight to him instead. Foxz waited once more to achieve the kill on Cryocells in the following round; however, this time, Cryocells turned around, shot him, and killed him, achieving his goal of vengeance.
XSET will now compete in the Group C winners’ match against FunPlus Phoenix, who defeated KRÜ Esports 2-0 in the opening round. In the event that XSET emerge victorious, they will move on past the group stage and into the playoff round.
Now XERXIA will compete in the elimination match against KRÜ. After that, they will still have one more match to play in order to advance out of the group stage.
