PGL Astana 2025 kicks off on Saturday with the first round of the Swiss Stage, where 16 teams will begin their quest for the trophy and the lion’s share of a US$1.25 million prize pool. While not the most inspiring result, the Turkish squad have produced a few good runs this season, which explains why they’re priced as third-favourites on the outright betting markets.
BIG have not found much success in 2025, but they placed second at MESA Nomadic Masters Spring 2025 earlier this month, indicating some improvement under new coach, Sebastian “xenn” Hoch.
Aurora Gaming have a higher ceiling and should be able to handle the shaky Germany in a best-of-three series. However, at -125, BIG are an inviting pick to take one map.

ODDIK are one of the biggest outsiders on the PGL Astana 2025 outright markets, as they have not won a tournament this season, nor have they attended any big events. However, Astralis have lost to teams weaker than ODDIK this season, and it does not help that PGL Astana will be their first event under the leadership of HooXi.

G2 Esports will start their new life without their ex-star players, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov this weekend, when they face off against MIBR, who have been struggling to leave a lasting mark across five big events attended this season.
Even though G2 Esports appear much weaker with their new lineup, this is still a roster of good players, who might gel nicely and help G2 retain their tag as one of the world’s elite teams. MIBR, on the other hand, have proven very inefficient against top-tier teams, so it is hard to feel overly optimistic about them.

FURIA will showcase their new international Counter-Strike 2 lineup in Astana, featuring Danil “molody” Golubenko and Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis. The duo joined FURIA following a last-place finish at PGL Bucharest 2025 – FURIA’s fifth consecutive event in which they failed to make much noise.
The MongolZ have a couple of solid tournament runs to their name this season, including a semifinal appearance in Melbourne. But they have not been very consistent of late.
MongolZ are rightly priced as favourites on the top Counter-Strike 2 betting sites, but we should not underestimate FURIA, who look very strong on paper. While expecting an upset is too optimistic, FURIA should be good for at least one map.

M80 are not viewed as serious PGL Astana 2025 title contenders; however, they are in good form and have a deeper map pool than Natus Vincere. While this might not be enough for an upset, unless Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov steps up, M80 can surprise.

PGL Astana 2025 is Ninjas in Pyjamas’ first S-Tier tournament of the season after spending the entirety of the year competing in various qualifiers and two lesser online events — including Fragadelphia x LVL UP EXPO 2025, which NiP won at the end of April.
Virtus.pro have been competing in bigger events, but have not found any notable success, leading to the arrival of coach Ivan “F_1N” Kochugov just over two weeks ago.
There is no telling how VP will perform under the guidance of former Gambit Esports strategist, but things can only go up for the Russian outfit.

PaiN Gaming should be able to handle the tournament’s lowest-rated team, HOTU, but seeing them priced at $1.16 does not sound fair.
The Brazilian outfit are on a nine-game losing streak and have not shown any improvement since the beginning of their slump in March. Even though HOTU are weaker than any of the teams paiN have faced over the last two months, the offered betting odds seem way off.
HOTU to take a map at even money is worth a look. But we like our chances with the underdogs to punish the shaky paiN Gaming.

Team Spirit are the clear favourites to win PGL Astana 2025 and claim their second trophy of the season. Despite failing to keep up with Team Vitality, Spirit have done well this year, with three semifinal appearances, a runner-up finish, and a gold medal from BLAST Bounty Spring 2025.
GamerLegion have not come close to reaching the same heights as Team Spirit in 2025. Their best result was a fifth-sixth finish at Intel Extreme Masters Melbourne 2025 last month, and they have not beaten any good teams since February.
Even though GamerLegion are priced very generously, it is hard to find a reason to go against Team Spirit, who are hungry for a trophy and will want to leave a strong impression before the Major.
