G2 Esports have set a new record in the group stage of ESL Pro League Season 16, winning all five of their best-of-three series without dropping a single map.

G2 were paired with BIG, FaZe Clan, FTW, MIBR, and Outsiders in Group B and did not lose a single map while playing the teams. G2 Esports are the first team in history to achieve this feat since the competition’s current format was introduced with Season 13 in March 2021.

While their performance was impressive, it was also hard-won. G2 went head-to-head with every team they were paired with, and three of the total maps played were forced into overtime. Two of those occurred when Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen and the lads went up against BIG, while the other was against Outsiders.

The only other squad that came close to achieving this feat was Natus Vincere, who achieved a 5-0 scoreline in the series during Season 15 of the competition. However, they lost a map to Astralis (14-16) during the group stage.

As the undisputed top team in Group B, G2 have secured direct qualification to the quarterfinals of the ESL Pro League. The two other teams to make it out of the group are FaZe (4-1) and Outsiders (3-2).

The playoffs are set to begin on September 27, so fans of the European esports team will have to wait to see the franchise in action again. The competition will, however, continue for the remaining two groups – C and D – in ESL Pro League Season 16 over the next two weeks.
