After a shaky start to VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025, G2 Esports will look to justify their tag as tournament favourites and eliminate their arch-rivals, Fnatic, in the lower-bracket semifinals this Friday.
Heading into the event, the best VALORANT betting sites had G2 priced as the team to beat in Canada. But the North American outfit met their match in the first round of the upper bracket, where they lost to Paper Rex.
The VCT Americas first seed has since beaten XLG Esports but needed a minor miracle to make it past Gen.G in the lower-bracket quarterfinals — a comeback on the third map (Icebox) after trailing 4-11.
That performance showed how resilient Jacob “valyn” Batio and his crew can be. However, G2 Esports should have lost.
Fnatic have had a similar experience on their road to the lower-bracket semifinals.
After losing to Gen.G in the first round of the knockout stage, they had to fight their way through the lower bracket, eliminating Rex Regum Qeon and Sentinels, both in competitive three-map games.
Across the three fixtures, Fnatic have shown some cracks — namely on Haven (0-3) and Sunset (0-2), which are two of their worst maps.
However, that should not be a major factor in the upcoming fixture, as G2 Esports do not play Sunset and hold only a 50% win rate on Haven.
In terms of map pools, Fnatic are in a better spot than G2. The Black & Orange have a higher win rate on Split (100% vs 75%), Lotus (67% vs 50%), and Fracture (100%), which is not in G2’s arsenal.
Both teams are perfect on Ascent with two maps played, while G2 Esports hold a marginal statistical lead on Icebox (100% vs 75%) thanks to their comeback against Gen.G in the previous round.
G2 hold notably higher win rate just on Pearl (50%), but that is not one of their main maps, and Fnatic regularly remove it from the pool.
Individually, G2 Esports have been posting more impressive numbers — namely Nathan “leaf” Orf (1.23) and Trent “trent” Cairns (1.18), who are respectively second and third in player rankings — but those numbers are inflated due to their trashing of XLG.
At the offered numbers, backing Fnatic makes more sense.
Fnatic to win
