FunPlus Phoenix and Ninjas in Pyjamas face off for the first time this season on Saturday, February 8, in the fourth week of LoL Pro League (LPL) 2025 Split 1.
The match comes after an extended pause for the LPL, allowing both squads to reset and get ready for the upcoming fixture. That should benefit FunPlus Phoenix more, as they did not look great early in the split.
With a new roster consisting of four new players and mid laner Yang “Care” Jie as the only carryover from 2024, FunPlus Phoenix started the new season with a 1-3 loss to Royal Never Give Up. They dominated map one but got stomped on the second and third, leading to a closely contested loss on the fourth.
Ninjas in Pyjamas had a better start to the new LPL season, as they beat Invictus Gaming 3-1. They lived up to the hype surrounding their new, star-studded roster, which features the likes of mid laner Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang, top laner Deng “shanji” Zi-Jian, and support Guo “ppgod” Peng.
These two teams are on opposite sides of the spectrum, as shown by the esports odds offered by the top LoL betting sites. However, we have only seen them play one game apiece, and NiP’s sole victory came against another hyped-up team who might not be that good.
FunPlus Phoenix have a lot more to show, but this roster features good players. With added preparation time, there is a good chance they can take one map off Ninjas in Pyjamas.
