Max “MaxPax” C. and Clément “Clem” Desplanches will clash in the opening Group B match of the DH SC2 Masters 2021 Fall: Season Finals in what will be a true spectacle featuring two of the biggest hopes of European StarCraft II scene. It will mark the pair’s 17th meeting of the year, only three of which have ended in favour of MaxPax, who has not claimed a single map in their last five clashes.

Given his previous success in these TvP meetings, it’s more than fair to say that Clem is the better player and is rightly priced at -625. However, you wouldn’t need to see the head-to-head record to know who should win.

That’s not because MaxPax lacks talent, but mainly because Clem is currently by far the highest-rated European player (1552 EPT Points). Meanwhile, MaxPax is ranked fifth in the ESL Pro Tour 2021/22 standings (559 EPT), which is still very impressive for a 17-year-old.

Even though MaxPax is one of Europe’s future stars and one of the best Protoss players in the region, we don’t see how he can improve upon his recent showings against Clem in the current meta. Take the French SCII pro to secure another clean sweep.

Korea’s fifth-ranked StarCraft II player, Lee “Bunny” Jae-seon, will clash with the undisputed best Latin American SCII pro, Juan “SpeCial” Lopez, in what promises to be a one-sided affair.

The top esports betting sites have SpeCial priced as a +211 underdog to upset Bunny, which seems about right. SpeCial might be the best player from his region, but he hasn’t achieved much on the Korean tour; in June, he finished TeamLiquid StarLeague 7 in seventh-eighth place.

Bunny and SpeCial last met in May, when Bunny won 2-1, adding to his 2-0 sweep in February. SpeCial has won one head-to-head meeting with Bunny this year – a 2-0 upset during the GSL Season 1 qualifiers back in March.

There is a world where SpeCial forces a close series and wins one map, but with the form he has been showing of late, there’s an equal chance he gets swept. We like Bunny with a -1.5 map handicap.
