IEM Rio 2026 day two brought drama as Vitality edged G2, Falcons crushed Spirit, FURIA rallied past NAVI, and HOTU produced one of the biggest surprises.

The second day of IEM Rio 2026 had a lot more edge than the opener.
Vitality were pushed all the way by G2, Falcons turned what looked like a genuine 50-50 into a blowout against Spirit, FURIA bounced back from a terrible first map to beat NAVI, and HOTU kept their run alive with one of the more surprising results of the night.

Vitality were still strong favourites at -1666.67, with G2 out at +650, but this was anything but comfortable.
G2 came out flying and crushed Mirage 13-5, putting real pressure on one of the tournament favourites right away. Vitality had to dig themselves out of a bad position, and they did it the hard way, taking Inferno 16-13 before edging Dust2 13-11 to complete the comeback. For long stretches, G2 looked capable of pulling off the upset, but Vitality were calmer when the series got tight.
Falcons and Spirit were both priced at -117.65, so this was meant to be one of the closest matches on the slate. Instead, Falcons completely ran over Spirit. They opened with a 13-4 win on Anubis, then backed it up with a 13-5 result on Mirage to finish off a surprisingly lopsided 2-0. For a match that looked even before the start, Falcons made it feel one-way traffic.
The lower bracket in Group A also delivered a couple of important results.
RED Canids got the better of Gentle Mates despite opening at +180, while Gentle Mates were favoured at -250. RED won Mirage 13-9, were smashed 4-13 on Ancient, then recovered strongly on Overpass to take the decider 13-10. It was not clean, but it kept the Brazilian side alive.
3DMAX also survived, making their -133.33 price count against Team Liquid at +100. Nuke was the key moment in the series, with 3DMAX getting over the line 16-14 in overtime, and from there Liquid never really recovered. Ancient finished 13-5, and Liquid were sent home without a win.
FURIA were one of the more interesting prices of the day at +120, with NAVI favoured at -161.29, and they ended up delivering one of the best wins of the slate.
NAVI completely dominated Mirage 13-3 and looked set to cruise through, but FURIA flipped the match on its head with a 13-4 Dust2. That forced a decider on Nuke, where the Brazilians held up in the big moments and closed it 16-13. It was messy, emotional and full of momentum swings, which felt about right for a FURIA series in Rio.
MOUZ had a much cleaner night. They went in at -181.82 against Aurora at +135 and controlled the match from the start. Dust2 ended 13-4, Mirage finished 13-8, and Aurora never really looked like taking over the series.
B8 also kept moving after starting at -285.71 against Passion UA at +200. They won Overpass 13-9, then rolled through Mirage 13-3 to finish the job with very little drama. It was one of the more straightforward lower-bracket wins of the round.
HOTU were the other underdog to get through, beating Legacy after opening at +160, while Legacy were favoured at -222.22. HOTU took Dust2 13-7, then held their nerve in a much tighter Ancient to win 16-14 and complete the sweep. For Legacy, it was a tough way to bow out. For HOTU, it was one of the best results of the day.
That leaves Vitality against Falcons in the Group A upper final, while RED Canids and 3DMAX continue battling through the lower side.
In Group B, FURIA and MOUZ have moved into the upper final, while B8 and HOTU kept their campaigns alive by surviving elimination matches.

The interesting thing about the Vitality-G2 series is that the individual numbers lean heavily toward G2, even though Vitality were the team that got through.
MATYS topped the server with 56 kills and a 1.26 rating, while HeavyGod also put together a huge series with 49 kills, 81.9 ADR and a 1.24 rating. G2 had enough firepower to win the match, but they could not close out Inferno or Dust2 when the pressure spiked late.
For Vitality, ZywOo was still the most reliable player when the series tightened up, finishing 52-42 with a 1.22 rating across the three maps. Mezii also chipped in with an important 47 kills, and those steady contributions mattered once the match moved beyond the one-sided opener and into the grind of the final two maps.
