Monte announced the signing of Aleks “Rainwalker” Petrov on Tuesday, February 10, finalizing their Counter-Strike 2 roster after one month.
Rainwalker joins Monte as a replacement for Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas, who was acquired by Astralis on January 8, leaving the Ukrainian team one man short.
The signing of the 24-year-old, however, comes as no surprise. The Bulgarian player has already spent weeks on Monte as a stand-in, proving his worth and earning his place on the main lineup.
He featured for Monte in the BLAST Bounty Winter 2026 closed qualifiers, and recently helped the team reach the finals of RES Showdown Spring Western Europe open qualifier.
Notably, Rainwalker stood out in Monte’s 2-1 victory over Natus Vincere at BLAST Bounty, averaging a 1.23 performance rating.
Rainwalker joins Monte from 500, whom he joined in December 2023, before leaving the team at the start of January.
During his time at 500, Rainwalker has averaged an impressive 1.13 performance rating, helping the team win several lower-tier events. That includes CCT Season 2 European Series #17, ICE Invitational, Global Offensive Champions League Season 1 and Season 2.
Prior to his stint with 500, Rainwalker also played for Team Liquid, though his tenure with the team was short-lived, as he appeared in just four events.
Rainwalker will make his official debut on Friday, when Monte clash with Tricked Esports in the first round of Group B at Copenhagen Gaming Week.
On the top-rated Counter-Strike 2 betting sites, Monte are priced as -250 favorites to defeat Tricked Esports and take one step closer to their first tournament trophy of the season.
