Gen.G Esports overcame a strong start from G2 Esports to secure a 3–1 series win in the 2025 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational quarterfinals. The series delivered big plays, momentum swings, and standout performances from Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu as Gen.G rallied back after dropping the first map.

G2 strikes first

G2 opened the series with a calculated, composed win. Rasmus “Caps” Winther was instrumental in a pivotal dragon fight, landing a perfect ultimate that led to a three-kill swing. G2 took control of the map and executed around objectives with surgical precision, eventually securing the Elder Dragon and pushing for a clean 32-minute victory.

Ruler’s turn to shine

Gen.G responded with renewed aggression in the second map of the series. After a smart skirmish around the grubs, they built momentum and never looked back. Ruler dominated team fights, finishing with a 12/1/6 scoreline. G2 had no answers, and Gen.G returned serve with their own 32-minute win, tying the series at 1–1.

Canyon unleashed

Map three was a rout. Gen.G handed Canyon his signature Lee Sin, and he completely dismantled G2. From early pressure to mid-game skirmishes, Canyon was unstoppable. G2 had no space to operate and fell quickly in just over 27 minutes, putting Gen.G ahead 2–1.

Closing it out

In what proved to be the fourth and final map, it was scrappy and aggressive on both sides. G2 found some strong picks early, but Gen.G’s superior team fighting and map control turned the tide. They controlled side lanes, won key objectives, and closed out the series with confidence. G2 started strong, but Gen.G’s resilience, Ruler’s carry potential, and Canyon’s impact sealed their path to the MSI 2025 semifinals.
