Perkz

Luka “Perkz” Perković has officially retired from professional League of Legends, bringing the curtain down on one of the most decorated and influential careers in European esports history. At just 26 years old, the Croatian star has stepped away from competition, citing burnout, shifting priorities, and an upcoming new chapter—fatherhood.

“It sounds crazy, but that’s esports,” Perkz reflected in an emotional farewell video shared across social media.

“There is just no time allocation, and all the bad things that come with the stresses of competing—I don’t want to manage anymore.”

From rookie prodigy to European titan

Perkz first burst onto the scene with GSI Gaming before being handpicked by Gamers2 (later G2 Esports) in 2015. He quickly replaced Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez, who had transitioned into the CEO role. From that point on, Perkz would become the face of a G2 dynasty and a pillar of European League of Legends.

With Perkz at its core, G2 dominated the EU LCS and later the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), capturing an incredible string of titles between 2016 and 2020. His unique mix of mechanical prowess and leadership helped G2 achieve legendary status—culminating in a historic 2019 season where they won both the Spring and Summer splits, the Mid-Season Invitational and finished runners-up at the World Championship.

That same year, Perkz made headlines by swapping roles with teammate Rasmus “Caps” Winther, switching from mid lane to AD carry—a move that further showcased his extraordinary versatility and understanding of the game.

International recognition

Perkz’s impact wasn’t confined to Europe. In 2021, he joined Cloud9 in the LCS, leading them to victory in the Spring Split and helping them reach the World Championship once again. Though his North American tenure lasted only a year, it cemented his reputation as a player capable of delivering success on both sides of the Atlantic.

Returning to Europe in 2022, Perkz signed with Team Vitality and later played briefly for Team Heretics. While these stints didn’t yield the same levels of success, they highlighted his resilience and willingness to adapt. His final split came in early 2025, competing as a Top Laner for NLC squad The Ruddy Sack—a rare role switch for a player who had already done it all.

Career achievements

Across his decade-long career, Perkz achieved:

  • 8x domestic titles with G2 Esports
  • 1x Mid-Season Invitational victory (2019)
  • 2x World Championship semifinals and a grand final appearance
  • 1x LCS Spring title with Cloud9 (2021)
  • Successful pro stints across three roles (Mid, ADC, and Top)

What’s next?

While stepping away from competition, Perkz hinted that his journey in League of Legends isn’t over entirely.

“I do intend to come back in some way or form—helping the young kids on the block that are eager, that are willing to put the time, the dedication to be the best,” he said.

“Until then, I’m out.”

He also revealed that he is preparing to become a father later this year, a life milestone that has helped shape his decision to retire now.

“I’m very grateful for my career. I’m grateful for the successes, the failures, the fans, and the organizations I’ve worked with,” he added.

“Even when fans thought I wasn’t giving my all—I was. I know I did. I’ve given everything to this career. Now, it’s time to move on.”
