The quarterfinals of the BLAST.tv Austin Major kicked off with MOUZ and paiN Gaming locking in their spots in the semifinals after surviving gruelling Counter-Strike 2 battles against Team Spirit and FURIA Esports, respectively.

MOUZ advanced with a gritty 2-1 victory over Spirit, recovering from a heartbreaking 21-25 loss on Mirage by dominating Dust2 (13-8) and edging out Nuke (13-10). Their map veto raised eyebrows—swapping their usual pick of Nuke for Mirage and banning Ancient, a map they’d previously used to defeat Spirit twice this year.

The gamble almost backfired as Spirit, led by the ever-dangerous Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and a clutch-heavy Myroslav “zont1x” Plakhotia, stole away Mirage in a chaotic double-overtime thriller. Undeterred, MOUZ steadied on Dust2 with a rock-solid counter-terrorist performance from Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo and Dorian “xertioN” Berman before executing clean, momentum-driven attacks in the second half to level the series.

On Nuke, it was a tale of recovery. Despite a tough terrorist-side start and quiet performances from xertioN and Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin, Ádám “torzsi” Torzsás and Lotan “Spinx” Giladi stepped up late to help break Spirit’s economy and close out the decider.

Later in the day, paiN survived a Brazilian brawl with FURIA, clinching their semi-final berth in an Inferno overtime classic. After dropping the first map, Nuke (6-13), convincingly—thanks in part to FURIA’s red-hot AWPer Danil “molodoy” Golubenko—paiN struck back hard on Anubis (13-8). David “dav1deuS” Tapia Maldonado delivered a stunning run of clutch wins to flip the script and force a third map.

Inferno delivered drama in spades. FURIA opened strong with a 6-0 lead, but Lucas “nqz” Soares lit up the server to spark a paiN revival. The Chilean star dav1deuS again rose to the moment, helping his side to four match points. Although FURIA mounted a late comeback to force OT, paiN kept their composure, sweeping the extra four rounds to take the final map 16-12.

The semi-finals now promise fireworks, as MOUZ await the winner of Natus Vincere vs Team Vitality, while paiN will meet either FaZe Clan or The MongolZ. With momentum on their side and stars firing, both squads are just one win away from the BLAST.tv Austin Major grand final.
