To no one’s surprise, the LCK Spring grand finals will feature Gen.G and the reigning LoL world champions DWG KIA, who will face off in a best-of-five (Bo5) series on Saturday, April 10. These sides last met in March when Gen.G won 2-1, having lost their first clash in February 1-2.
DWG KIA ended the regular season with a phenomenal 16-2 record and +23 game differential (77% win rate), which was only marginally worse than their run in 2020 LCK Summer when they managed a 16-2 series record and 87% game win rate. Gen.G were slightly less successful with 13-5 series record and 66% game win rate, which was still good for a second-place finish.
It’s hard to say which team should win here, largely because they don’t approach the game the same way. While Gen.G tend to be much more consistent with their drafts, it’s DWG KIA who ironically get advantages, which is due to the individual quality of their players.
DWG KIA have several of the best players in the world for each position, which might seem like a hot take since we haven’t seen them in an international event yet in 2021, but the numbers speak their own story. That said, Gen.G are not too far behind quality-wise, and we would go even so far as to say that Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk is easily one of the top-three ADCs in the world currently.
Esports betting sites believe DWG KIA have a 76.9% chance of winning, which seems a bit high considering how strong Gen.G can be. The price on the underdogs is way too good for us to pass on, especially after their strong showing against T1 (3-0) on Sunday.
