CHECKMATE and w2c will clash on Tuesday in the semi-finals of the Funspark Rivals Pre-Season Stage 1. It will mark their first meeting since the third week of December when CHECKMATE swept w2c (2-0) at the Hyperion x OEL CS:GO Launch: Asian Qualifier #2.
It’s hard to say which team is in better form due to their shaky showings during the group stage. CHECKMATE edged past Huat Zai (2-1) and Let’s Quit (2-1), whereas w2c narrowly beat After Gaming (2-0) and ZIGMA (2-0). Esports betting sites have priced Checkmate as a heavy favourite.
Those results are hardly worth celebrating and don’t justify the significantly shorter odds offered on CHECKMATE, who don’t seem much stronger than w2c. This match should be much closer than what the latest CS:GO betting odds suggest, which leads us to believe w2c have a higher than 34.2% chance of causing an upset.
