G2 Esports and LYON are set to lock horns on Friday, July 10, in the lower bracket round three of the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational, where the two teams will battle it out for a chance to face Hanwha Life Esports in the lower bracket final.

The top-rated LoL betting sites have G2 Esports listed as -625 favourites to emerge victorious, giving them an 86.2% implied probability of success. That is a huge number for a lower bracket semifinal, regardless of G2’s performance against T1.

The European champions have found themselves under the spotlight after an upset victory against T1 on Wednesday, when G2 Esports showcased a lot of good things.

Besides managing to match T1 on the individual level, G2 Esports also proved how flexible and adaptable they can be. More importantly, G2 did not move away from their aggressive drafting approach, even though it did not net them any positive results against Hanwha Life Esports.

Despite the success G2 Esports enjoyed on the day, they still showed some cracks and weaknesses. Most obvious was G2’s tendency to force fights, which should not work in their favour, and that was most notable on map four, where G2 were fortunate that a few situations broke their way.

On the other side, G2 produced a great series, so outside of a few wrinkles, they have proven they can dance with anyone.

LYON have yet to produce such a stunning victory this tournament, having only beaten FURIA and Team Secret Whales, while their sole loss came against Bilibili Gaming in the upper bracket.

In their more recent game, LYON swept Team Secret Whales, but the final score does not show the full picture, as map one could easily have ended the other way. The second and third maps were all LYON, who ground down Team Secret Whales and secured a well-earned victory.

The main thing to take away from how LYON like to play is their heavy reliance on jungler Kacper “Inspired” Słoma, who can take over games and set up LYON for a smooth transition into the mid-to-late game.

If Inspired is shut down, however, things get very dicey. And from what G2 Esports have shown, they are more than capable of accomplishing just that.

LYON are no pushovers, but they have more evident and more easily exploitable weaknesses than G2, who tend to beat themselves more often than not. LYON are also not an explosive early-game team, which is something G2 Esports can play around while again opting into more aggressive compositions to gain early advantages.

LYON can bite, but G2 have looked more polished and should win without many issues.
