EDward Gaming kicked off their VALORANT Masters Santiago campaign with a tough loss against Gentle Mates. While they managed to keep up with the VCT EMEA representatives on Haven, the Chinese squad collapsed on Pearl, losing the series with 11-13, 7-13.

T1 had a similar experience in the opening round of the tournament. Despite the top VALORANT bookmakers tagging them as strong favorites to defeat Team Liquid, T1 lost 8-13 on Breeze and 13-15 on Split, dropping down to the lower bracket. Kim “Meteor” Tae-oh, in particular, struggled with a 0.48 performance rating.

T1 might’ve been overrated for the opening round of play, but this is still an elite team who should be able to qualify for the next stage. On the other hand, EDward Gaming have been performing well in the current double-duelist meta, and they did not look too bad when faced with Gentle Mates.

This is T1’s game to lose, but EDG can force a close series.

XLG Esports could not make it past NRG in the opening round of the Swiss Stage and lost 0-2. Haven was a one-sided map ending in 13-2 for NRG; however, XLG showed more fight on Abyss, but still came short of three rounds, losing 10-13.

G2 Esports started the tournament with a very tough defeat against Paper Rex, losing Split with 9-13 and Corrode with 5-13. In their defense, Paper Rex are one of the strongest teams attending the tournament; however, G2 did not play well on the day.

G2 look stronger on paper and should be favored to win. Still, XLG Esports are not to be underestimated. With their aggressive style of play, XLG have the tools to catch other teams off guard, and if their performance against NRG is any indication, the Chinese outfit can take a bite out of G2 Esports on Tuesday.
