Europe’s last hope, G2 Esports, will face off against the unconvincing Top Esports in the League of Legends World Championship 2025 quarterfinals this Thursday.
As the team with the better record in the Swiss Stage, G2 will have side choice for their second meeting with TES at LoL Worlds 2025.
The two teams clashed in the opening round of play, when the Chinese outfit produced a dominant victory.
Considering how that game played out, it is unsurprising to see the best esports betting sites slapping a -250 price tag on Top Esports to win.
However, the LoL Pro League (LPL) representatives have not impressed on the whole. While they dominated G2 Esports and 100 Thieves, they were smoked by Gen.G and KT Rolster — largely due to poor mid-late game performances.
Their victory against Bilibili Gaming in the fifth round was an improvement, but it mostly came down to BLG making too many macro errors.
G2 Esports had a slow start to LoL Worlds, but they picked up the pace with solid victories against Movistar KOI, Bilibili Gaming, and FlyQuest. While this was a soft schedule, G2 have played themselves into solid form.
The main question is which versions of each side we are going to get. Under normal circumstances, TES should win without many issues, but given their lack of consistency and questionable decision-making, it is fair to expect G2 Esports to leave a dent.
The LoL EMEA Championship (LEC) champions have some of the best coaching staff in the world, so you can be sure they will be well prepared for this clash. And while they might lack the individual talent of Top Esports, G2 are very good at punishing mistakes.
Ultimately, it will come down to which team makes fewer errors, and for G2 Esports, in particular, how well they can fend off Top Esports in the early game.
A stable start will be key to success for Rasmus “Caps” Winther and his crew. But with side selection, they should put themselves in a solid spot to achieve that and take at least one map.
