LoL: Invictus Gaming release jungler Jiejie

The 2021 LoL world champion has failed to make an impact since joining IG last December.

Invictus Gaming officially announced the departure of Zhao “Jiejie” Lijie on Sunday, August 17, bringing the jungler’s short stint with the Chinese League of Legends team to an expected end.

Jiejie joined Invictus last December from EDward Gaming, with whom he won the 2021 LoL World Championship, but failed to find as much success in his new home and ended his debut split in seventh-eighth place.

While Invictus Gaming showed some improvement in LoL Pro League Split 2, with a third-place finish, they still fell short of expectations, missing out on the Mid-Season Invitational and the Esports World Cup.

The shaky run through the first half of the season led Invictus Gaming to make a drastic change and bench Jiejie in favor of Yan “Wei” Yangwei, who joined the roster ahead of the summer split.

The bold decision resulted in noticeable improvement in Invictus Gaming’s performances, who have produced a promising 5-2 record five weeks into the final split of the season.

Jiejie’s exodus from Invictus Gaming comes as no surprise to the LoL world, as he has reportedly spent the last few weeks in his hometown and was not involved in any of the team’s activities.

With the 2025 LoL esports season drawing to a close and all of the top LPL contenders fielding complete rosters, Jiejie’s options are limited.

Barring the scenario where Jiejie is signed as a substitute jungler, the ex-EDG star could miss his third LoL World Championship in a row.
