Gen.G’s League of Legends team is ready for the 2023 LCK season, having completed its roster.
The South Korean esports franchise have made some changes to their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
The offseason has been quite an eventful one, with multiple franchises making changes to their rosters at a faster rate than has been seen in LCK history.
Gen.G were not left out as the franchise took to their Twitter page to reveal changes to their roster, which include contract terminations, contract extensions and more recently new signings.
The franchise had on November 21 extended the contract of their jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and announced the retention of their resident top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon for the 2023 LCK season.
Having received a one-year contract extension the contracts of both players will run until November 2023, pending renewal.
Gen.G also parted ways with their support Son “Lehends” Si-woo and their substitute jungler Ko “Youngjae” Yeong-jae. About a week ago, the franchise released bot laner Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, who had been with the organization since 2017.
With the ADC leaving the team before the commencement of the free agency period, Gen.G had been allowed ample time to find a replacement. The franchise have decided to utilize their own homegrown academy talents. They announced the promotion of Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan from their Challengers roster to the main roster.
“We’re happy to announce that Gen.G Peyz, ‘Soo Hwan Kim,’ will represent our franchise as our AD player!” the franchise announced via their Twitter page.
He will take over the bot lane, replacing Ruler for the 2023 LOL LCK season. The franchise had revealed their intention to keep him on the team for the long haul. In line with that, Gen.G had extended his contract for two years, with the expiration date pegged at the end of 2024.
In the 2022 LCK Challengers League, Peyz posted one of the best performances by any ADC. He was arguably one of the rising talents of the league, and as such, his promotion comes as no surprise. In the 2023 LCK season, he will compete against some of the best Korean ADCs in the world, including Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu and LCK returnee Park “Viper” Do-hyeon.
With Lehends off the team, Peyz will play alongside Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong, who will man the support position. The 20-year old makes a return to Gen.G, having started off his career with the academy team of the franchise in 2020. He joins the team from Brion Esports, where he has spent the last two years—the most of his career.
“Welcome, Delight ‘Delight’ Hwan Jung Yu joins the team as our newest Support player,” Gen.G tweeted.
“See you in 2023, we can’t wait for what you bring to the season!”
There has been no information as regards the coaching staff, as head coach Go “Score” Dong-bin and his assistants Kim “Museong” Moo-seong and Won “Mafa” Sang-yeon will continue into the 2023 LCK season, having all joined the team in November 2021.
