Despite what the latest StarCraft II betting odds suggest, Tuesday’s clash between Dragon Phoenix Gaming and Alpha X might be one of the closest games of the World Team League 2022 Summer. The golden dragons are the underdogs, but they have historically performed well against the Chinese team, proving that even the most stacked squads can bleed.
But we can’t just ignore the raw talent on DPG’s roster, namely Kim “herO” Joon-ho and Kim “Cure” Doh-wook, who are two of the most consistent players in the world right now. On the other side, Lee “Rogue” Byeong-yeol is the complete opposite, and he could be the man that sinks DPG’s ship on Tuesday.
Alpha X will play with Max “Astrea” Angel instead of Kim “Classic” Doh-woo, which makes perfect sense since Astrea is in much better form than his Korean teammate, and we would argue that the 25-year-old is simply a better player currently.
Classic still deserves respect for his past achievement and unmatched strategic brilliance; however, he hasn’t shown much since his return from the military service. Unlike Classic, Astrea is known to be more “out-of-the-box”, making him a wildcard player for Alpha X and someone who can defeat anyone on a good day.
Looking at the three match-ups, we would still prefer DPG, but Alpha X are known for punching above their weight class and have shown that they can compete with the best. At +137, Alpha X are a solid value pick. Alternatively, a bet on over 6.5 maps is worth considering.
