Team Liquid announced that they have parted ways with Counter-Strike 2 head coach Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg, who is stepping down after a nine-month stint.

The announcement comes less than a week after Team Liquid was eliminated from BLAST Open Spring 2025 in ninth-12th-place, marking their fourth early tournament elimination of the 2025 season.

Ranked no.9 on the global Counter-Strike standings, Team Liquid have confirmed they will continue with analyst Jay “DeMars DeRover” Li as an interim head coach while they explore their options.

MithR joined Team Liquid in July 2024 as a replacement for Wilton “zews” Prado, who ended his second spell with Liquid a month prior.

At the time, Team Liquid were rebuilding their CS2 division, with the arrivals of Justin “jks” Savage, Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak, and Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken’s transition to the in-game leader position.

All that work, however, did not lead to any significant accomplishments, as the Danish strategist has achieved little of note during his nine-month-long stay.

After a solid debut at BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2024, where Liquid placed 1st-4th, mithR failed to lead his squad to another podium finish, often missing out on the knockout stages of bigger events.

Some of the most notable accomplishments include a semifinal run at ESL Challenger at DreamHack Melbourne 2024 and two fifth-eighth-place-finishes at ESL Pro League Season 20 and Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.

Since the turn of the year, Liquid have failed to find more traction, with a ninth-16th-place finish at BLAST Bounty Spring 2025: Closed Qualifier, ninth-12th at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025, fifth-eighth at ESL Pro League Season 21, and more recently, a ninth-12th-place finish at BLAST Open Spring 2025.

“2025 did not go as we wanted it to. I am incredibly disappointed and sad that it turned out this way, but I will reflect and learn from this – as I always have – and improve for my next team,” said mithR in a farewell post on X.

The decision to release mithR comes amid reports that Liquid are close to signing ex-MOUZ player Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek, who is expected to replace Twistzz as the new in-game leader.

Team Liquid’s next competitive endeavour begins on April 6, with the first round of the group stage at PGL Bucharest 2025.
