However, it wasn’t until Valve released Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CS:GO) where IEM really took off. In 2014 (Season 8), IEM held its first-ever IEM Katowice at the Spodek Arena, where Virtus.Pro won the inaugural event over Ninjas in Pyjamas.
Throughout its history, IEM Katowice has been an official CS:GO Major twice, in 2014 and 2019. Even though IEM Katowice isn’t an official CS:GO Major every year, it is still considered one of the most prestigious events on the Counter-Strike calendar.
