North American Counter-Strike 2 team M80 is the final squad to qualify for BLAST Open Spring 2025, where they will compete for the lion’s share of the $400,000 prize pool.
On Friday, M80 secured their spot at BLAST Open Spring 2025 by completing their Ace North American Masters Spring 2025 campaign, beating eight teams in the process.
Winning the tournament is the German-North American outfit’s most notable accomplishment of the season, but even in the qualifiers, M80 made it very clear they have the tools to go all the way.
There, Elias “s1n” Stein and co. Bested Lumen, Zomblers, Bad News Capybaras, and Marsborne twice to book a ticket in the main event.
M80 kept their momentum going and proved they are a class above the rest of the attending teams, with three 2-0 sweeps of Nouns Esports, NRG, and BOSS, dropping double-digit rounds only three times across the three games.
M80’s Mason “Lake” Sanderson, who joined the roster in July 2024, was the top-performing player on the team, posting a 1.45 performance rating in the qualifiers and 1.34 in the main event.
He was also the top player in M80’s 2-0 sweep of BOSS in the grand final, with a 1.27 performance rating, ahead of Michael “Swisher” Schmid.
The recent success is a huge boost for M80, who had a rough start to the 2025 season when they lost Ethan “reck” Serrano, who suffered a broken leg and was substituted by Nils “k1to” Gruhne.
With reck out of the picture, M80 crashed out of BLAST Bounty Spring 2025: Closed Qualifiers and ran out of steam at ICE Invitational but looked much more potent with the 21-year-old back in the starting lineup.
Now, fielding a full lineup, M80 will join some of the world’s top teams, including the recently crowned Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025 champions Team Vitality, in Copenhagen in the battle for the BLAST Open Spring 2025 trophy.
Before their trip to Copenhagen, M80 still has to attend the $400,000 ESL Pro League Season 21 tournament, which will kick off on March 1, 2025.
