The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) 2023 Spring postseason is coming to an end, with only two more series left before we crown the new LCK champions. Next on the schedule is an exciting clash between Gen.G and KT Rolster, who will meet on Saturday, April 8, in the lower bracket final to determine which of the two squads will face off against T1 in the grand final.
KT Rolster are a pleasant surprise of the 2023 LCK season, having exceeded everyone’s expectations and made it to the penultimate stage of the playoffs. Despite finishing the regular season in third place (13-5) and having to begin their climb to the top from the first round of the playoffs, KT Rolster made it just two games short of their first LCK title since 2018.
KT Rolster first eliminated Liiv SANBDBOX, then suffered a close (2-3) loss against T1, but handily disposed of Hanwha Life Esports (3-1) in the loser’s bracket. Gen.G placed second in the regular season and kicked off the playoffs with a 3-1 win against Hanwha Life Esports, only to kneel in front of T1, who bested them 3-1 last Saturday.
Based on the teams’ results, KT Rolster would seem the better team, but the eye test would suggest otherwise. ADC Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan and support Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong are a bit reason why Gen.G have been so successful this season, and it’s hard to imagine KT Rolster stopping them. Yet even in other lanes, Gen.G have stronger players, not to mention that Gen. G’s mid-late game is better.
KT Rolster can put up a fight and force a close series, but at $1.72, we’ll gladly take Gen.G to come out ahead.
