Thunderpick World Championship returns on Wednesday, October 15, for the third edition of the international Counter-Strike 2 tournament.
The competition will run from October 15 to 19, in Malta as a LAN event. It will feature eight CS2 esports teams, who will vie for the largest slice of the US$340,000 prize pool, with $200k awarded to the champions.
Succeeding ESL Pro League Season 22, Thunderpick World Championship 2025 is one of the final Valve Tier-1 events of the season, and the final competition ahead of the heavily anticipated PGL Masters Bucharest 2025.
Set to play out in two stages, the Thunderpick World Championship will start with two four-team double-elimination GSL groups. All matches are best-of-three, and only the top two teams from each group will proceed to the playoffs.
The Thunderpick World Championships will culminate with single-elimination playoffs, with all games, including the finals, played as best-of-three series.

The Thunderpick World Championships are coming soon after the conclusion of ESL Pro league season 22, and several teams will be hoping to bounce back, including the world’s top rated team The MongolZ and Natus Vincere.
The MongolZ
Billed as the team to beat, The MongolZ head to Malta with a point to prove following their early elimination from ESL Pro League Season 22. The slight hiccup, however, should not be a reason for concern for a current No.4 team on the VRS who’ve placed lower than the top eight in just two S-Tier tournaments this season.
Natus Vincere
Natus Vincere have had a very turbulent season, struggling to find any consistency with their performances. However, they have shown signs of life lately, with a gold medal from StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2025 and a quarterfinal appearance at ESL Pro League.
FURIA
It is very hard to ignore FURIA, who are on a run of three impressive tournament placements. Those include a semifinal appearance at BLAST Open Fall, a trophy from FISSURE Playground #2, and a top-eight finish at ESL Pro League. While known to be volatile, FURIA have the tools to go all the way in Malta.
Aurora Gaming
Aurora Gaming made the grand finals of the Esports World Cup at the end of August, proving they belong among the elite Counter-Strike 2 teams. They have since attended just FISSURE Playground #2, suffering a painful quarterfinal elimination. The Turkish squad have had nearly a month to prepare for Thunderpick World Championship, which could be beneficial, but ring rust is a thing.
