The MongolZ bomb out of ESL Pro League S22 after upset

Counter-Strike 2 powerhouse The MongolZ has bombed out of ESL Pro League Season 22 after a below par showing against a top Ukrainian team.

ESL Pro League news - S22 playoffs bracket set

The MongolZ failed to live up to expectations after they were sensationally dumped out of  ESL Pro League Season 22 in their final Stage 2 match by NaVi in Stockholm, Sweden on Wednesday.

The Mongolians had been installed a -153.85 favorite with esports betting sites to defeat Natus Vincere ($2.22) but it was the experienced Ukrainian outfit that proved too strong, sweeping their clash 0-2 and moving into the S22 Playoffs.

This victory for NaVi catapaults them into a quarter-final clash against MOUZ where they will again have to defy the odds, if they wish to remain in the running for for the USD $100,000 first prize that is up for grabs.

The MongolZ, who are the national CS2 esports team of Mongolia, had been heavily favoured to push deep into the tournament and were priced at +350 to win, so this result will sting and leaves them with some soul searching ahead of the Thunderpick World Championships beginning next week in Malta.

For NaVi though the victory was significant after a run of inconsistent form in recent times, and beating the reigning Esports World Cup Champions in a do-or-die contest proves they are back among the upper echelon of CS2 teams

NaVi’s victory was set up after an outstanding display on Nuke, where they defeated their opponent 13-3, before sweeping the series on Ancient despite The MongolZ taking a 6-1 lead early.

With the ESL Pro League Season 22 stage matches now finished, the event is up to the playoffs bracket, with just eight teams remaining.

The tournament now enjoys a day off before the Playoffs begin
