Shopify Rebellion exit Dota 2, release roster after EWC 2025

Shopify Rebellion has left competitive Dota 2, releasing its full roster after a disappointing Esports World Cup 2025 run. The North American org signals a possible return in the future while continuing in other esports.

North American organization Shopify Rebellion has officially stepped away from competitive Dota 2, releasing its entire roster effective immediately.

The decision comes just days after their 13th–16th place finish at the Esports World Cup 2025 and failure to qualify for The International, ending a two-and-a-half-year run in Valve’s flagship MOBA.

Co-founder Dario “TLO” Wünsch confirmed the exit in an emotional statement on Shopify Rebellion’s social channels, calling it a “see you soon” rather than a goodbye.

He praised the players and staff for their commitment but admitted the team repeatedly fell short of the high standards they set.

“I hope they all find great new homes and continue to shine, bringing their incredible talent and dedication to new teams,” Wünsch wrote.

Shopify Rebellion entered Dota 2 in late 2022 by signing much of the former Evil Geniuses roster, a lineup that once featured stars like Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and Abed “Abed” Yusop.

Their early results included a top-four finish at the Lima Major and third place at DreamLeague Season 19, but consistent struggles in international events — including two failed attempts to qualify through The International North America Closed Qualifiers — kept them from breaking through.

The team’s latest roster, featuring Timado, Yopaj-, Davai Lama, Hellscream and Skem, managed to qualify for the Dota 2 Esports World Cup but failed to advance beyond the lower bracket.

With Europe’s dominance in Dota 2 continuing — led by teams like Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid — North American representation at tier-one events has dwindled, making Shopify’s withdrawal another blow to the region’s competitive scene.

While Rebellion has exited Dota 2 for now, the organization remains active in other esports titles such as VALORANT, Rocket League, and League of Legends.

Wünsch hinted at a possible return, assuring fans he’ll still follow Dota as a supporter: “I’ll always keep an eye on Dota. For now, you can bet I’ll be cheering on my favorite players as a fan during TI.”
