On Tuesday, November 18, Riot Games announced that they removed TALON from the League of Legends Championship
Pacific (LCP) due to the team’s failure to operate in accordance with the league’s standards.
According to the statement, the LCP ended their partnership with TALON due to financial issues, leading to significant payment delays to players and coaches.
TALON responded to the news, stating they understand and accept Riot’s decision.
This marks the end of TALON’s six-year involvement in the Pacific league, where they held the title of one of the region’s most successful teams.
Best known for their partnership with the French soccer team, Paris Saint-Germain, TALON were one of the most recognizable Pacific representatives at international LoL events.
Besides winning eight domestic titles, TALON (as PSG Talon) also qualified for five LoL World Championships over the six years and secured four Mid-Season Invitational appearances.
At MSI, TALON produced their most memorable international tournament performance, reaching the semifinals of MSI 2021, where they lost to Royal Never Give Up, who went on to win the entire thing.
At LoL Worlds, TALON’s best placement came in 2021 when they finished ninth-11th. This year, the Pacific representatives exited the season-culminating event in 15th-16th place.
With TALON’s exit from LCP, the entire roster, including Huang “Azhi” Shang-chih, Lu “Betty” Yu-hung, Hung “Karsa” Hau-hsuan, Huang “Maple” Yi-tang, Lin “Woody” Hung-yu, and Chu “FoFo” Chun-lan are free agents, adding an influx of world-class players to the region’s transfer market.
This is not the first Riot league from which TALON have been removed.
The Hong Kong team had already been removed from the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Pacific just hours earlier for the same reasons: financial problems.
With TALON’s departure from the LCP, Riot Games are now actively searching for a team to fill the void ahead of the next
season, which begins with LCK 2025 Season Kickoff on January 16
